I’ve got a little problem….

….a tomato problem….

One day’s harvest….

They’re very sweet.A good snacking tomato.I’ve made Pickled Grape Tomatoes,Bruschetta, given them away……And still they keep coming! #firstworldproblems

And then I have this one…..

Solar Fire(Heat tolerant hybrid) determinate

A quite large tomato and “meaty.”A good ‘mater and mayo’ sandwich tomato.

I,also, have a Kale problem. But I’m dealing with that pretty well.So far…..We’ll get into that in another post.I don’t want to overload you whining about my problems….

And then there’s the Lubber problem…..I’ve found they’ve developed an appetite for plumerias!
Which is a major no-no at TheGreatWall !
Just today,I beheaded over 20 on the yellow plumeria!
And 5 on the white!
It’s now become personal between me and them!
I shall be buying a new set of clippers just for beheading!

Stay tuned……

Fall…..ish

Today, the first so called cool front passed through.
After a day of rain,we were left with much lower humidity, and a forecast for lower night time temps.
But….there’s always a but this time of year…..tomorrow is to be in the 90’s,but with low humidity.By this time of year,I’ll take what I can get.
If the first front passed, can the next real one be far behind?

Already, the garden is showing signs of Autumn.
Even though the plumeria are still blooming…

….the first signs of rust are showing up,and leaves are dropping. It’s a problem for we Florida plumeria growers, but it’s almost self-correcting.The rust shows up,leaves drop, the plumeria goes dormant, and then comes back in the Spring.

The Beautiberry Callicarpa americana L. is exceptionally beautiful this year.

As is the Yellow Top Flaveria linearis ….

After it is done blooming,I think I will take divisions, and in the Spring, plant the divisions around the garden. It seems to like all types of conditions.

The vegetable garden has been planted.
The collards are up already…IMG_1529turnip seedlings in the background.

The Cat’s Whisker’s Orthosiphon aristatus IMG_1524
seem happy with the weather change.

And,of course,Buddha is happy….

….just smelling the Wendy’s Wish Salvia….

How’s your garden growing?
Is it ready for Fall?

Anticipation…..

The veggie garden has been officially put to bed.As I write this,it is being solarized….

gardenCompost and manure added.
Plans have been made.
Seeds have been ordered. The usual suspects.Green beans, kale, carrots, collards, turnips, radishes, lettuce(waaaay too may kinds)….tomatoes started..

And the annual perusal of recipes has started….
Ones I need want to try….
This pizza…. with kale
Green beans….
Quiche
Hopefully,I’ll have bumper crop of tomatoes,so I can try this….

And the Yellow-top Flaveria linearis is already blooming.

Can Autumn, and cooler weather,be far behind?

Tatsoi….

Brassica narinosa
Spinach mustard,spoon mustard,Rosette bok choy,
….what ever you want to call it….
Where I first heard about this green,I have no idea. From one of the gardening blogs I follow,I think.
If it’s yours,I apologize in advance for not giving you due credit.
The gardening blog world is alive with info about Tatsoi.Everything I read about it said it was a great green.
Plus it’s fun to say.
Far be it from me to not jump on the band wagon.
’cause that’s how I roll….
So, I ordered some seeds, from here. And planted them.
Already they are up ……

and I have plucked some of the leaves and used them in mixed green salads.
They are right!
It’s dee-lish!
According to the seed packet, the seeds can be planted in Florida, thru August.
Winner in my book.
….so far….
